# Free or paid AI SEO course: what does the money buy?

Free AI SEO programs confirm 7.3 curriculum topics against 7.1 for paid ones, so a fee buys people and a refund, not syllabus. Checked September 2026.

By Editorial team, 20 September 2026. Every figure is computed from the dataset at build time (observation cutoff 18 September 2026); guides do not name or rank programs.

Money buys access to people and a refund promise. It does not reliably buy more curriculum. Free programs in this directory confirm a mean of 7.3 across 15 programs, and paid programs with a published price confirm 7.1 across 25 (checked 18 September 2026). The gap runs the wrong way for anyone who assumes a fee means a fuller syllabus. The free side is ranked on the [free AI SEO course hub](/free-ai-seo-course/), where the same scoring rules apply as everywhere else.

## How do the free and paid groups split?

15 of 44 English-language programs are free, 4 could not be verified, 25 publish a price, and 4 charge money without saying how much (checked 18 September 2026). That last group matters to your shortlist, because a program with no published figure cannot be compared on cost at all.

A program that asks you to book a call before it names a price is a program you cannot compare until you have spent an hour of your own time on it. Put those to one side on the first pass and come back to them only if the shortlist runs dry.

Free also covers a wide range of things. Some free programs are a single recorded session. Others are a full module set with worksheets, sitting on a vendor academy that hopes you will buy the tool afterwards. The price model tells you nothing about length, so read the syllabus rather than the price.

## Does the syllabus differ between free and paid programs?

9 of 15 free programs teach [GEO](/glossary/geo/)and 14 of 25 paid ones do, with 2 and 9 unverified respectively (checked 18 September 2026). The shares land on the same proportion in both groups, and the table below repeats the exercise for four more topics; measurement and local work lean slightly to the free side.

| Topic taught | Free (15 programs) | Paid with a published price (25 programs) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| GEO | 9 of 15 (2 unverified) | 14 of 25 (9 unverified) |
| AEO | 6 of 15 (2 unverified) | 11 of 25 (10 unverified) |
| AI visibility measurement | 12 of 15 (1 unverified) | 16 of 25 (7 unverified) |
| AI crawler access | 7 of 15 (1 unverified) | 11 of 25 (8 unverified) |
| Local AI SEO | 5 of 15 (1 unverified) | 7 of 25 (9 unverified) |
| Mean flags confirmed | 7.3 | 7.1 |

All rows checked 18 September 2026.

Then read the unverified column, because it tells a second story: 9 paid programs leave GEO unstated against 2 free ones, and the pattern repeats on crawler access and local. Sales pages sell an outcome. Free syllabi list modules, because the module list is the whole pitch.

One caveat on those counts. An unverified cell means the provider's public page did not say, so the topic may well be in the course. It is still a cost to you, because you are buying on a promise you cannot check before the refund window opens.

## What does a fee actually add?

15 of 44 English-language programs run live calls or sessions, with 20 unverified (checked 18 September 2026), and live contact is the first of three things that show up on the paid side often enough to be worth money, ahead of a community and a refund policy.

If you have a site to fix and specific questions about it, an hour with someone who has fixed one is the thing a recorded video cannot do.

A room. 15 of 44 programs include a community (20 unverified). What that is worth depends on who else is in it, which you can only judge from public member counts and post dates. 17 of 44 programs publish a member or enrolment figure, so for the rest you are guessing.

A way out. 23 of 29 paid programs publish a refund policy (checked 18 September 2026). A free program owes you nothing and takes nothing, so the refund question only exists once money moves. For the spread of prices behind that decision, see [what an AI SEO course costs](/ai-seo-course-cost/).

Certificates are the weakest case for paying. 27 of 44 programs issue one, and 0 of 27 name an accrediting body (11 unverified). A line on your profile is a fair reason to buy. A line that carries weight with a hiring manager is a different claim, and the data does not support it yet.

## Does paying buy a more transparent provider?

4.4 of seven transparency checks is the mean for paid programs across 29 programs, against 4.1 of six for free ones across 15, the refund check not applying to free programs (checked 18 September 2026). Only 1 of 44 programs meet every applicable check, so paying does not buy a clearer provider.

Evidence is thin on both sides of the price line. 15 of 44 programs have nothing public to rate, and 24 sit at low confidence, so they are listed without a rank on every hub. That rule and the six scoring dimensions are set out in [how the scores are calculated](/methodology/).

## Which test should you run before paying?

22 of 44 programs publish the price on the provider's own site and 18 of 44 date their reviews, 0 unverified on the price check (checked 18 September 2026). Those are the first and fourth rows of the five-row test below.

A program that fails three of the five is not disqualified, but it is asking you to take more on trust than the fee is worth.

| Check | What a pass looks like |
| --- | --- |
| Price on the provider's own site | Published, with a date, not gated behind a call |
| Syllabus detail | Named modules, not outcome promises |
| Instructor | A person with public work you can read |
| Reviews | Dated, on a platform the provider does not own |
| Refund | Window and conditions written down |

The sequence that wastes the least money: run a free program first, finish it, apply it to one site, then write down what you still cannot do. Rank order on [the comparison table](/)is score order, so the free and paid entries sit on the same scale and you can compare them side by side.

So: after a week with a free syllabus, can you name the one gap a fee would close for you?

## Frequently asked questions

Do paid AI SEO courses teach more topics than free ones?

Not on average. Free programs confirm a mean of 7.3, paid programs with a published price confirm 7.1 across 25 programs (checked 18 September 2026). Topic coverage is a poor reason to pay.

What does a fee buy that free programs rarely include?

Live sessions, a community and a refund promise. 15 of 44 English-language programs run live calls (20 unverified), and 23 of 29 paid programs publish a refund policy (checked 18 September 2026).

Is a paid certificate worth anything?

27 of 44 programs issue a certificate, and 0 of 27 name an accrediting body (11 unverified; checked 18 September 2026). Treat it as proof you finished, not as a credential an employer can check.

How much does a paid program cost per month?

The median normalised monthly cost is $33.25 across 25 paid programs, and the highest published price is $1,995 (checked 18 September 2026). Prices also move, so re-check the figure on the provider's own page before you buy.
