# Share of answer

How often AI assistants name or cite you across a set of prompts, and why a single spot check tells you nothing.

By Editorial team. Definition in our words; usage count from the dataset (18 September 2026).

Share of answer is a measurement idea: across a defined set of prompts, how often an AI assistant names or cites you, and how much of the answer is built from your material. It is the scoreboard rather than the tactic. GEO and AEO describe work you do to a page, LLMO sits in the same family, and share of answer is how you check whether any of it moved. It behaves unlike rank tracking, because an assistant can give two different answers to the same question an hour apart, so one spot check proves nothing. In our curriculum heatmap this sits under AI visibility measurement: 32 of 44 programs teach it (8 unverified) (checked 18 September 2026). If you are buying a course, look for a stated method: how the prompt set is built and how often it is re-run. Ask what counts as a passing mention versus a linked citation. A course that shows a dashboard without a sampling rule has taught you a screenshot.

## Example

An in-house marketer at a payroll software company writes a prompt list that mirrors how buyers actually ask: best payroll tool for small teams, cheapest payroll software, and so on. She runs the same list every Monday across two assistants and records which vendors get named and which get a live link. Over time the trend line tells her more than any single run.
